Magneto Optical Disks Transfer and Conversions

MO Disks need converting? Our friendly team is happy to help transfer your Optical Disks to recover the data.

FileNET Recovery and MO Magneto Optical Disks migration

Work can be conducted on your site/premises. We have developed a system to read the Magneto Optical disks from FileNET and export the files along with document id, even when the disk is faulty or has errors and the FileNET system rejected the discs. The files could be scanned or faxed documents. IBM FileNET was recorded onto MO disks (MOD) but later versions use cache hard drive files. Sometimes these discs are housed in massive Jukeboxes. These systems involve IBM servers, and HP Surestore Optical Jukeboxes. We have recovered files from MO disks in the Tranlog (DR disaster recovery system rather than the production system) even when the FileNET system rejected the disks and would not allow the files to be extracted.

MO Optical Disks Types, Transfer & Data Recovery

We have handled many different proprietary Optical Disks & Magneto Optical Disks (or MOD) file storage systems and have listed a few below. They include Optical Disk Jukebox transfer to say Hard disk drive (HDD). We also make custom solutions using in-house programming to aid migration of file data out of old scanning and document storage systems to the exact client requirements. This is usually to enable total disposal of the old system to a more generic easily accessed system from regular Windows PC or Mac computer. It removes the expensive Maintenance / Service costs which the old system required, to a cheap easy do it yourself system. We can convert them to a more easily handled format by modern computers eg PDF, TIFF, Microsoft Word, Excel saved on DVD CD Hard Disk etc.

Panasonic KV-F510 KV-F520 KV-F521 KV-F511 Filing System

In the 1990's Panasonic developed the KV-F510 KV-F520 KV-F511 Electronic Filing System which stored data on MO disks 3.5 inch and 5.25 such as the LM-R1500A. Panasonic LF-7300B was the external Optical Drive for 5.25 inch MO Optical disks. The System was used to store scanned documents and print via the KV-F511 scanner. We have recovered files from the MO Optical disks and converted to TIF images viewable on a Windows PC, Mac etc. We can export the files as multi-page TIFF with original file names. The KV-F was developed between Panasonic and Fuji (Fujix D-file EX name). It has its own proprietary Filesystem with tags such as KME-EFS-MEDIA, KME-EFS-PAGE-HEADER etc in the raw data. The system also has various part numbers like KV-F510C KV-F510G KV-F510U KV-F520K KV-F520U KV-F521 KV-F521U KV-F501 KV-F51 KV-F51P KV-F511. The Panasonic system is sometimes called Document Image Processing DIP Station or Panasonic Filing System.

OPENTEXT Magneto-Optical MO Disks

OpenText has utilised MO disks (MOD) to store scanned documents. Sometimes these discs are housed in massive Jukeboxes. We have recovered files even when the disks are not mounted by the Open Text system. We can export the files as multi-page or single page TIFF with their document ifnid and disk set ifnds numbers. This has aided data recovery and migration from old archive systems to more modern forms of hard drive storage on Tower was recorded onto either Hard Disk Drive Cache files or MO disks. The system sometimes runs with Unix based database.

PCDOC SoftCo Hdd Cache and MO Magneto-Optical Disks

SoftCo PCDOC was recorded onto either Hard Disk Drive Cache files or MO disks (MOD). PCDOC was used by Ministry of Defence, Stock Exchanges and other as a document archive, storage and retrieval system. We have experience in extracting the documents as TIFF files from these Legacy file systems to more modern media that can be readily accessed from Windows computer or on a network drive. We have also cracked the PCDOC database so can extract the document's cross reference and migrate data to say a csv file for easy import to other applications. Variations of PCDOC are PCDocSe PCDOCSG

Panasonic LF Plasmon LM Corel WORM Optical Disk Cartridge Transfer

Back in the 1990s we discovered that all Optical disks storage systems are created equal - until you come to the world of Panasonic. When combined with IBM CRL2 CRL3 and Corel cpk it too quite a while to figure ourt this file system! The good news is we have developed systems to unlock your scanned data and files from this arcane file system. These 5.25 inch optical disk cartridge came in a variety of sizes inc 200MB 400MB 940MB 1.4GB 1GB 1.5GB. They sometimes use a very rare file system with signatures such as IBM CRL2, Corel/cpk for PC DOS FAT and Apple Mac HFS computer systems. Model Numbers were P201 P470C P940C P1400C P1002E P1500E LM-R1500A LM-D500 LM-D500W LM-D501 LM-D501W LM-D702W LM-R1400A LM-W1400A OC-900. They were made by Plasmon, Panasonic, Storage Dimensions, Magstore among others. They look similar to other 5.25 inch MO disks except they have 3 notches or holes down the right side of the casing and again were phase change technology. Inside they look similar to a DVD-RAM but they cannot be read using a DVD-RAM drive. The disks were double sided WORM (Write Once Read Many) and had capacities per side of 470MB/Side, 500MB/Side 700MB/Side 750MB/Side. Other identities for these were Magstore, Storage Dimensions, Reflection Systems and IBM 3363 WORM Write Once Optical Disk Cartridge

Sun Systems UNIX document imaging system by Com Squared Systems

Often utilising Sony M.O. Disk 1.3GB disks we can convert this electronic scanning system to DVD or usb hard drive for access on Windows.

DICOM Magneto-Optical MO Disks MOD

Data Transfer includes for Zeiss Visupac medical systems and records, Phillips PET-CT medical diagnostic system MOD archive. We have also transferred Dicom from disks which have become corrupt especially for the old Marconi and Philips SeleCT CT scanners . The disks were showing blank but we restored access to the DICOM files and transferred them to DVDs or hard drives.

PD 650 MB Cartridge by Panasonic LM-R650J LM-R650E & 3M PD650 Transfer

A disk that is frequently categorised as a DVD-RAM or MO disk, however it is different since they were recorded using Phasewriter Phase Change Dual. They were produced by Panasonic & 3M during the early 1990's as a pre-cursor to the DVD-RAM. They were not widely popular and were only in production for a short time. We can transfer data files from the Panasonic PD Cartridge Cartouche LM-R650J, 3M PD 650 and LM-R650E Single Sided Rewriteable 650MB optical disks to say a regular CD for use in a Windows PC Computer or Apple Mac.
See our CD DVD DVD-RAM recovery & file data transfer section.

Microware OS9000 MO disk

Microware M3000 OS9000 OS-9/68k 68000 computers did allow backups to Magneto Optical Disks - often 5.25 inch variety with 512 bytes / sector sizes. We can decode and extract the files from these old Microware systems. Just email / call us if you have similar disk conversion requirements.

Magneto-Optical disks were originally 5.25" or 130mm. They look like the old style dvd cartridges with a cd inside. The data is recorded on both sides of the disk and the disk has to be turned over to read the other side. The disk reflective coating can be seen by pulling back the aluminium slider. The recording is made by a laser heating the disks magnetic layer so altering its magnetic state.

The 130mm MO Disks are often employed in company document management storage and retrieval systems. Optical libraries automate loading and storing of the disks. and may hold 16 or more disks and connected by SCSI to a host computer and incorporates archive software to store indexes of data and select disks. Popular uses were for legal document storage and medical imaging. Maxoptix is a major manufacturer of 130 mm or 5.25" magneto optical drives.

The 90mm 3.5" inch MO discs were more commonly used by consumers. They look like a thicker version of a 1.44MB floppy disk. Vendors were initially NeXT and Canon followed by Fujitsu, Sony and PDO Konica Minolta. Fujitsu and Sony expanded the GIGAMO Standard to 2.3GB. Gigamo was supported by Olympus Optical, Konica Teijin Hitachi Maxell Mitsubishi Ritek, Shima Seiki. The Gigamo products were used for high-speed file backup for commercial systems such as telephone switches and Automated Teller Machines, and for storing and working with digital video and photos. They were popular with Apple Mac users.

Also legacy systems data transfer. We have handled many proprietray file system storage applications and extracted the data to more modern media for access by Windows PCs, Macs or Network storage.

We have received an increasing quantitity of these disks as they near end of life and start to show signs of wear. Do not attempt disk scans or automatic repairs under windows as this has the effect of deleting files and folders that cannot be read properly - simply amail or call us for a quote to recover the disk as soon as possible. The less that happens to it the better.
