VXA file data transfer and conversion

VXA VXA1 VXA2 VXA3 tapes - we specialise in transfer and conversion of VXA tape cartridge to CD , DVD or hard disk drive.

VXA data recovery or extract files

Often customers cannot remember what software was used to backup data to the tape. In some cases no one knows what computer system eg. PC, Apple Mac, Unix etc was used. However all is not lost - we can access the tapes at a very low level, and read the raw data, enabling us in most cases to identify the software, or even write our own software to reverse engineer the file system and extract the files.

VXA tape backup software

VXA tape drives were shipped with Backup Exec, Dantz Retrospect, and Yosemite Tapeware although due to their SCSI interface they run on a huge variety of systems. VXA tapes are used by Fujitsu Siemens, Panasonic, TDK, Ingram, EMC Dantz, Imation, HP, Tech Data, Computer Associates, IBM, Adaptec, Sony.

VXA Archive Tapes

VXA tapes look similar to the old 8mm Exabyte tapes - mainly due to the fact that Exabyte / Ecrix created the format. Later Tandberg Data took over Exabyte and stopped production of the VXA tapes. VXA cartridges were also produced by IBM X23. There are 2 variants of the VXA3 tape - VXA-320 and VXA-172 which are physically the same, with an electronic lock on the VXA-172 to 86GB tapes. VXA tape drives were also badged by Storage Loader. A drive designated as VXA-4 has been proposed for 320GB native size.
